Throughout the year, The Salvation Army of Spokane helps our most vulnerable members of our community meet their needs. Our events change lives.
"Backpacks for Kids helped my children get the school supplies they needed when our family was out of work. Without The Salvation Army of Spokane and the work they do, our kids wouldn't have those things".
Every summer, The Salvation Army in Spokane helps kids of all ages go to camp. Camp Gifford is a Christian camp owned and operated by The Salvation Army in Spokane, Washington. Every summer nearly 1,000 children and teens come to camp to be challenged, taught and to have a lot of fun while learning about themselves, the environment, and God. Young people ages 7-17 are able to attend camp as a camper? Participating in our youth (ages 7-12) or teen (ages 13-17) camping programs. Additionally, young people ages 14 and over have opportunities to participate in L.A.M.P. (the Leadership And Mentoring Program) or become staff (15 years +) at Camp Gifford.

Starting a new school year may be a thrill of many kids, however it can also cause anxiety and stress for families when they are faced with the expense of buying new clothes, shoes, and other supplies. Many families struggle with paying for the items, clothing, and school supplies that their children need, and many kids unfortunately go without basic back-to-school necessities.
This is where The Salvation Army can help. The Salvation Army provides thousands of kids across the country with new clothes, supplies, and really confidence as many kids are able to obtain the right ingredients and items that are needed for success in the classroom. Many families that need help with obtaining school supplies for their children can get assistance from the Salvation Army. Our organization offers qualified families a number of resources provided in partnership with major retailers, while other Back-To-School programs are administered directly by us. We are also supported by a number of volunteers and volunteer organizations, partnerships, local and national businesses. Families with children of school age (K-12) - and meet the low income level requirement - may apply to receive back to school supplies every year before school starts.

Backpacks For Kids is the largest backpack and school supply distribution in the Northwest Region. We anticipate handing out more than 5,000 backpacks filled with supplies to children in our community. First come, First served!

The "miracle" of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing. Among the many programs provided by The Salvation Army, those that particularly bring joy at Christmas are the Adopt-a-Family, Angel Tree and Holiday Food Baskets. Together, these programs help to ensure that hundreds of lower-income families in our community have an opportunity to receive gifts, have gifts for their children and funds to purchase food for a Christmas dinner celebration.

Salvation Army families receive Christmas gifts via the Adopt A Family Program. Qualified families include those in the Salvation Army Social Service's Programs and those living on The Salvation Army campus in transitional or shelter housing. All other community families are encouraged to visit Toys For Tots and the Catholic Charities Christmas Bureau.

This annual December event - held in partnership with JC Penney - enables more than 200 low income children a one time chance at a shopping spree for clothing, shoes and coats at JC Penney. Children are chosen by local school counselors based on need.

On the 24th of December, The Salvation Army of Spokane will serve their annual Christmas Eve Dinner to the public. This dinner hosts over 265 individuals and families that are seeking a warm meal and fellowship during the Holiday season. The Salvation Army's best known fundraiser! The annual campaign involves hiring 200+ bell ringers and organizing 150+ volunteers who work tirelessly in November and December to encourage others to put money in our iconic red kettles. Money raised goes to support all of our programs year round. This year's campaign goal is to raise $424,000.
